Happy Birthday to Conditional Love!

Happy birthday to you,

Happy birthday to you,

Happy birthday, dear, Conditional Love

Happy birthday to you!

Wow, where did that year go! Little did I imagine last October 4th when I self-published Conditional Love how my life would change in such a short space of time.

I genuinely only expected to sell a handful of books. To date I have sold around thirty thousand copies and given another seventy thousand away free, mostly in America, in a promotion I did in April.

My plan was simple enough: self-publish my first book to create an author platform, develop a small readership and learn about the industry in order to dazzle an agent and hopefully secure representation for my second book.

Unbelievably it worked.

Over the Christmas holidays last year, I sent my second book White Lies and Wishes to Hannah Fergusonand lo and behold, received an offer of representation from her!

But while she was reading it, something else amazing happened: Harriet Bourton from publishers, Transworld contacted me to ask if I’d work to produce a digital first ebook series. Two weeks later Hannah negotiated a contract with Transworld to produce my first traditionally published work: Ivy Lane, a serialized novel in four parts.

Working with Hannah, Harriet and the whole team at Transworld to produce Ivy Lane has been a real pleasure and today, I have received my very own bound proof copy of the paperback which will be out next February.

Of course, all this excitement meant that White Lies and Wishes had to take a back seat for the time being. But in early summer, Hannah negotiated a new contract with Transworld for a three book deal which included White Lies and Wishes, a new ebook serial called Appleby Farm AND Conditional Love.

So a year on, I am now re-working Conditional Love ready for its reincarnation as a Transworld title. Following such astute editorial notes from my editor, Harriet, the book is getting a facelift ready for publication as an ebook on December 4th and a paperback sometime next year. Most excitingly for me, the illustrator Kate Forrester, is designing a new cover for it too and I can’t wait to see how it turns out.

But now I would like to raise a toast to Conditional Love and everyone who has helped me along my writing journey so far.

Here’s to many more celebrations! xxx
