My Novelicious Moment With Conditional Love
Novelicious is one of my favourite websites. Sign up for their newsletter now!
It’s a fabulous place to read about the news and gossip from the world of books. There are interviews with new and established authors, lots of books to be won and loads of book inspired features. It was founded by an equally fabulous Kirsty Greenwood, who is now a published author herself.
When I published Conditional Love last year, I contacted Kirsty to ask if I could be featured in some small way on Novelicious. I had a lovely email back from her explaining that self-published authors would only be featured on Novelicious once their book had made the Amazon top 300 chart. At the time, Conditional Love was hovering at around number 800 in the charts. So I put on a brave smile and filed Kirsty’s email under ‘Dream On’ and tried not to be too sad.
I completely understand Novelicious’s policy, there are so many books published every day, that she and her team can’t possibly feature everyone, and they have a duty to the thousands of subscribers who act on Novelicious’s recommendations to showcase the best in women’s fiction.
Then, one December night, I happened to check my Amazon rankings, I’d not looked at it for a few days because I’d been trying to get a manuscript finished before Christmas. EEK – there it was! Conditional Love was 295 in the Amazon chart, a whole 5 places higher than I needed to be to feature on Novelicious. I’d never imagined my debut novel to do so well. I was so excited and it felt like winning the lottery!
It was about 9pm at the time and my first thought was that I needed to tell Kirsty right then that the book had made the top 300, just in case it mysteriously vanished into oblivion the next day! I emailed her straight away and only a few minutes later an emailed ping back from her…
Absolutely fantastic, Cathy, congratulations! I saw you at 400 the other day and was hoping you would get into the top 300! I have copied in Novelicious’ lovely new editor, Kerry, who will be able to give you an address to send a review copy to, as well as some interview questions and an outline of the current features you can take part in.
Really looking forward to seeing you on the site!
How lovely was that!! True to her word, the Novelicious Editor Kerry emailed me back about thirty minutes later and suddenly I had the whole of the marvellous Novelicious team behind me!
Since then I have featured on Novelicious several times, but here is my very first interview…
